Derek Blasberg attends the most spectacular fashion and art events in the Italian summer calendar. In Sicily, he meets designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana who have decided to stage their four-day extravaganza of Haute Couture fashion shows in the place they call home. In Venice, the art world has descended for the Biennale. Here, we meet the most outspoken voices at the fair, from American Pavilion artist Mark Bradford to Ai Wei Wei, who worked with Venetian glassblowers on the island of Murano to create a politically charged installation. We also meet British actor Jeremy Irons. In a church adorned by the 16th century genius Paolo Veronese, he takes Derek to meet a team of restorers bringing Venice’s Sistine Chapel back to its full splendor.
